Aceasta rela\u021bie extramarital\u0103 nu i-a \u00eempiedicat \u00eens\u0103 ascensiunea \u00een ranguri \u00eenalte datorit\u0103 sprijinului \u0219i recunoa\u0219terii tat\u0103lui s\u0103u.<br \/>\nA fost recunoscut\u0103 oficial de c\u0103tre Carol al V-lea \u0219i crescut\u0103 \u00eentr-o manier\u0103 care i-a permis s\u0103 aib\u0103 o educa\u021bie nobil\u0103. S-a c\u0103s\u0103torit de dou\u0103 ori: prima dat\u0103 cu Alessandro de&#8217; Medici, Duce de Floren\u021ba, iar dup\u0103 moartea acestuia, cu Ottavio Farnese, Duce de Parma \u0219i Piacenza<br \/>\n\u00cen 1559, fratele ei vitreg, regele Filip al II-lea al Spaniei, a numit-o regent\u0103 a \u021a\u0103rilor de Jos. A ocupat aceast\u0103 func\u021bie p\u00e2n\u0103 \u00een 1567. Mandatul ei a fost marcat de provoc\u0103ri majore, inclusiv de tulbur\u0103rile religioase \u0219i politice ale vremii.<br \/>\nMargareta a avut de-a face cu cre\u0219terea nemul\u021bumirilor \u00eempotriva domina\u021biei spaniole \u0219i cu tensiunile religioase \u00eentre catolici \u0219i protestan\u021bi.
